I had quite possibly the best meal of my life at Delmonico Steakhouse in the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. We did the tasting menu ($85/person) which came with 5 courses. While we waited on our first course they brought out some Truffle Parmasean Potato Chips which were very tasty. After a little while longer about 7 waitstaff came out of nowhere each with a plate in hand, so we were all served at once our first dish, which was trout wrapped in the skin, wrapped in a light pastry accomponied with some sliced grapefruit, clovers and some type of ginger? It was excellent. Usually I'm not a huge fan of trout, but this was very good. I also ordered a glass of pinot noir which was excellent. After a while (The entire meal took about 3 hours) the second course came out, foie gras. This is only the second time I have had this, but it has quickly become one of my favorite dishes. Nothing short of delicious. Just melt in your mouth good. The fortunate thing for me also, was my sister who is a picky eater didn't like a lot of her food so I got to have two full portions of this. I can't forget to mention the service here. Everyone at the table I talked to agreed this was the most amazing service they have ever had. An emptied wine or drink (Don't even think a water glass EVER got near empty) would be taken, and asked if a replacement needed no longer than 30 seconds after it was empty. Any time someone would get up to use the restroom immediately someone was there to fold their napkin and place back on their table. Right when a plate was done with seconds later it was removed. Absolutely impeccable. The next course that came out was the most tender piece of veal I have ever had. It was served with a steak knife, but was not at all needed. The veal was served over some potatoes and other vegetables, accomponied with an excellent reduction. Next up was my one dissapointment of the night. A sirloin steak with a nice reduction, and wild mushrooms. The reduction and mushrooms were very good, but the steak quite honestly had a lot of fat. My brother in law said his was the same way. My sister (The one who was actually eating) however was so full from everything else she had eaten offered me pretty much her entire steak, and hers was excellent, with not a piece of fat to be seen. The final course was of course, dessert. We were expecting to get a couple or so brought out. Instead, they brought out every one they had (7 total!). My favorites were the Pecan Pie, the Chocolate Brioche Bread Pudding, and the warm apple crisp with cinnamon coconut crumble, and fresh vanilla ice cream. Really, at $85 per person for everything that was included this was a great deal. If you are looking for somewhere to spend a special occasion dinner, looking for a great meal and incredible service then by all means spend an evening at Delmonico Steakhouse.
